About David

David Lundqvist was born in 1985 in Långelanda, Orust. David has experience from restaurants such as the Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden, Gute Köttrestaurang & Grillbistro, Operakällaren and Restaurang Jonas in Stockholm and Hos Pelle, Fiskekrogen and Restaurang Fond in Gothenburg. He started working as a 13-year-old at Slussens Pensionat in Orust, where he remained for ten years and was head chef during his last years there.

Honest Cooking

2018 was the third time David Lundqvist participated in Chef of the Year, he also stood in the final in both 2015 and 2016. David describes himself as an honest cook who always delivers high flavours packed with simplicity, but not forgetting the finesse and wicked finish. If David himself should decides what Sunday dinner would be, it would still be his favourite; pickled herring, fresh Swedish potatoes, chopped egg and onions with browned butter. If given the opportunity, he’d never say no to freshly caught mackerel grilled over an open fire either.

As a young man, David decided that the cooking was his future, and since then his work has focused on reaching as far as he can. My attitude is to constantly develop and to cook really good food.

” It feels … at last! Yesterday it was a bit hardcore, it was fun and so on, but it was hardcore. I went in super charged up, I pushed a little too hard and didn’t really get the right feeling. Then there was a long wait at the end. ”– David Lundqvist, Chef of the Year 2018
